As reported in “the news” out of Australia, there are a more and more people suffering jaw injuries as restaurants make bigger and bigger burgers. The China Post quoted professor Hsu Ming-lung of the School of Dentistry at National Yang-Ming University (in Taiwan) as saying patients have developed sore jaws and had difficulties opening their mouths after consuming giant burgers. I’m sure it’s not just in Taiwan but maybe they are the first to complain about the cause of jaw injuries being these overwhelming burgers BUT if a burger is big enough to cause a jaw injury then I need to try it.

The most interesting part of the article is the stated fact that 8 cm seems to be the maximum height for a safe burger. According to Hsu, problems can arise when eaters try to eat a hamburger larger than eight centimeters high.

I’d say the most notable jaw injury from eating happened in 2007 to Professional Eater Takeru “Tsunami” Kobayashi of hot dog eating fame. Kobayashi damaged his jaw by training too hard for the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Competition. Although burgers are typically more work for the jaw, the realization that eating and eating and eating causes jaw wear and tear should make you think twice about forcing that first bite of a new burger. Be warned!

*from MyWebGrocer.com - great stuff!

Some other interesting facts from their findings include an increase of only 5% for ketchup and 10% for mustard, both important mainstays for any hamburger experience. Overall, it’s good to know that burgers celebrate independence more than any other food. Hot dogs were only up 38%, so take that!

Spending more than $60,000, Hamburger Harry, as he is affectionately referred to by his fans, finished his dream of a burger motorcycle after a lot of work and dedication. He owns more than 500 hamburger artifacts including a hamburger waterbed, hamburger displays from restaurants around the country. Yes he is married and yes his wife supports and encourages him:)

I thought BurgerVoice was a devotion to burgers but a motorcycle and an International Hall of Fame all devoted to burgers makes me feel like I’m missing something in my life. If you are in the Daytona Beach area and have a chance to either see the Hamburger Harley or the Hall of Fame, please let us know. Thanks Harry!

A chicken sandwich is primarily made up of a boneless, skinless, breast of chicken served on a hamburger style bun with some combination of lettuce, mayo, tomato, bacon and cheese (especially as a swiss & bacon combo at most fast food joints). Honey mustard, barbecue sauce and chipotle sauce are also pretty popular on chicken sandwiches.

Chick-fil-A is the not so humble beginning of the chicken sandwich. Why is a not so humble beginning you ask? Because they tell everyone, all the time, that’s why. They serve the fried chicken breast with only a pickle and bun and are pretty darn popular with chicken lovers everywhere. From the commercial awesomeness of Dairy Queen’s Flame Thrower Chicken Sandwich to the Rhode Island and Nebraska only KFC Double Down Chicken sandwich, we know there are a lot of good chicken sandwiches out there and this week, BurgerVoice will try a few.

Welcome to Chicken Sandwich Week at BurgerVoice. Let’s eat some chicken!

(and the internet) I was introduced to the mighty Cheeseburger-In-A-Can. Yes, it’s a canned cheeseburger with a 12 month shelf life that requires only a hot water bath and a hungry soul. Knowing that whatever I eat for lunch or dinner can’t be worse than a canned cheeseburger has helped me commit to another year of burger blogging. Apparently this canned creation of madness is only available in Germany but don’t think I’m not looking for a way to get my hands on some!

I believe the feelings that came to mind in watching some of the videos here can best be described with the following words: WHY? OH NO? IS THAT A TOMATO? BOILED BURGER?

Again, I hope to actually have one for myself but in the meantime, here are some pictures from the web.

840 calories
55 g fat (22.5 g saturated)
1,050 mg sodium

Carl’s Jr. Six Dollar Burger

Burger King Triple Whopper Sandwich with Cheese and Mayo
1250 Calories
1,600 mg sodium
Although this was sad to read I will give them credit for suggesting alternatives (only once considering chicken an alternative was a nice touch as well). They recommended the Big Hamburger from Carl’s Jr instead of the Six Dollar Burger and ordering “Protein Style” at In-N-Out. Interesting ideas……but I don’t know if it’s really worth it. You only live once and you should enjoy each meal, right?
